Vanuatu Map

Vanuatu is the adventure travel capital of Melanesia. The Vanuatu hotel accommodation scene revolves around Port Vila on Efate and Luganville on Santo, the country's only towns.

These sophisticated resorts are renowned for their fine restaurants and diverse organized activities, including scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, yachting fishing, horseback riding, golf, and more. Bungee jumping originated in Vanuatu.

The outer islands of the Y-shaped chain depicted on our Vanuatu map preserve traditional culture, and will appeal to the hiker and mountain climber. Active volcanoes punctuate islands like Tanna, Ambrym, Ambae, Lopevi, and Gaua.

Efate's Bauerfield Airport receives frequent Air Vanuatu and Pacific Blue flights from Australia, but you can also travel here from Fiji, New Zealand, and Noumea. Pekoa Airport on Santo is served by the domestic airline Vanair.

Cruise ships call at Aneityum and Santo for their fine beaches and at Port Vila for the shopping and sightseeing.

Until 1980 Vanuatu was the New Hebrides Condominium, jointly ruled by the governments of Britain and France. Independence allowed the creation of a national currency, the vatu, and the country is now a well established member of many international organizations.
